Latest Updates

November 2006

As you may I know I spent the entire World Cup doing TV work for Indian Television something which I enjoyed immensely and look forward to doing it again soon. After India it was a well earned rest with the family in Cyprus and we combined that with the christening of our youngest daughter Isabel. It was a lovely break and I always enjoy going back to Cyprus where we have many good friends and family is always nice.

After Cyprus it was back to England and start the search for the next challenge and who knows where that may lead. I have always enjoyed coaching abroad and it may be that I end up once again coaching in a different part of the world, for me as long as I can coach and be involved in football it is not really a problem for me though Lucy (wife) might disagree!

Thankfully after the long break it was off to Moldova to conduct a coaching course for FIFA. We were based in their national training centre about 30km from Chisinau where all the Moldovan national teams train and prepare for their games. It was a fantastic site and it had everything that the players and coaches could need. We had 23 coaches from al over Moldova and the course was over a week and I must say it was a really good week and I really enjoyed my time there. As usual I met many good people and have made a few more friends.

The month of October was fairly quite for me in that when I am not involved with a club I do quite a bit of scouting for a number of clubs in all the divisions which I quite enjoy. It is a good way to keep your eye in as they say and of course go to watch games; I never get tired of that. I am also involved in delivering coach education courses for the FA and again it is something I enjoy a great deal and get a lot of satisfaction from passing on my experience and knowledge to other coaches.

In order to keep myself current and up to date with things I try to go and watch other coaches at work and recently I was fortunate enough to visit Mr Wenger and watch him work with the Arsenal team which is always great and then a trip to see Charlton Athletic train with Ian Dowie and Les Reed at work. I have plans to visit other teams home and abroad while I am waiting for the next opportunity which I hope is just around the corner as you never know everything there is to know and I always find I pick up things watching other work.

I have also been really busy writing a book on coaching sessions and I based it on a season in the Championship and the sessions in the book are ones we used during my time at Millwall. I think it will be out in the New Year and of course will let you know as soon as it is available.

Finally in closing I hope the next segment of News finds me in a new job!

All the best
