At last some thing to write about, I have been offered a three year
deal to be the new Coach for the Malawi National team and can’t
wait to get started. Of course the contract is all in order which
I am sure will be; I should start early March.
It has been a long wait and even though I have tried to keep busy
it of course is not the same as working with players competing in
games and all that comes with it. I would like to thank my family
and friends who have stuck by me through this difficult time and
of course to the many of you who have written in with your words
of encouragement and offered your support in different ways my sincerest
thanks to you all.
You know being out of the game for any length of time is tough
for anyone who has been in it and there have been many dark days
where I wondered how much longer I would have to wait for the right
opportunity, and with so much competition out there you never know
when or if you are going to get back in.
Fortunately for me this has not been the case and I have managed
to hold out for a job that I feel will give me the greatest challenge
and I am sure I will be put to the test in Africa. This will be
my third national team and the fourth continent that I have coached
in and what with the 2010 World Cup being held in South Africa the
spotlight will be firmly on African football in general.
The last few weeks have been hectic to say the least and I have
been half way around the world! I travelled to Malawi from London
via Johannesburg then went through the interview process which proved
to be successful and then back to London the next day, only to leave
for Singapore the same day to deliver a course for FIFA which was
to last a week it was then back for the weekend before setting off
for another course this time in Zurich! I will have a couple of
weeks at home and if all goes well will embark on my new challenge
in Malawi in March.
Until the next time take care.
