Stephen recently embarked on his latest foreign adventure, this
time heading out to Africa to become head coach of Malawi's national
team. After successful stints with Nepal and India, this will be
the third national team he has coached in the last six years, and
the fourth continent he has worked on.
With the next World Cup in 2010 due to take place in neighbouring
South Africa, these are exciting times to be involved in the development
of African football, and Stephen is especially enthusiastic about
the task of guiding the 'Flames' upwards. Stephen has a strong record
of changing the fortunes of all of the teams he has coached to date,
and is positive he will be able to have an equally positive impact
on the game in Malawi.

A firm believer in the need to constantly improve his knowledge
and skills, Stephen holds the highest qualification available to
the coaching profession, the UEFA Pro Licence. In 2001, he was inducted

courses, as well as providing courses for on behalf of the English
FA.
Over the years, Stephen has developed an extensive network of contacts
worldwide and his ability to submerge himself within the culture
of the countries where he has worked, as well as to bring to bear
the benefits of his international experience, has undoubtedly played
a key part in his success as a coach. Stephen firmly believes that
it is important to be flexible and have an understanding of the
people around you. And he is relishing the prospect of sharing his
knowledge and skills, and continuing to learn himself, as he embarks
on his latest adventure in the vibrant and exciting world of African
football.
Where was Indian football three years ago? He has come in and
given us confidence, spirit and the will to win. We owe him a lot.
It will be a disaster should he leave." -- S. Venkatesh,
Mahindra United Midfielder Indian Captain, June 2005
