Welcome to the website of Stephen Constantine

After changing around the fortunes of Malawi – his third position as National Coach following successful stints at Nepal and then India – Stephen has accepted the challenge of leading the ‘Desert Hawks’ of the Sudan his fourth National Team, rejecting offers from two other National teams in the process.

“I’ve seven years as a National Coach now, and I’ve worked in four different continents. With South Africa hosting the World Cup Finals next year I felt that this was the right challenge at the right time. I’m proud to be given this opportunity and I hope I can give the Sudanese people reason to be proud, and reason to be happy.”

A Year in the Championship

A firm believer in the need to constantly improve his knowledge and skills, Stephen holds the highest qualification available to the coaching profession, the UEFA Pro Licence. In 2001, he was inducted onto FIFA’s elite coaches’ instructors’ panel for which he travels the world delivering a variety of coach education courses for FIFA, as well as providing courses for and on behalf of the English FA.
Over the years Stephen has developed an extensive network of contacts worldwide, and these, together with his ability to absorb the culture of the countries in which he is working, and apply the benefits of his international experience, has provided the foundation for his success as a coach. Stephen firmly believes that it is important to be flexible and have an understanding of the people and the culture around you. As he embarks on his second adventure in the vibrant and exciting world of African football, Stephen is relishing the prospect of sharing his knowledge and skills, while at the same time continuing his life-long search for professional learning and improvement.
Where was Indian football three years ago? He has come in and given us confidence, spirit and the will to win. We owe him a lot. It will be a disaster should he leave." -- S. Venkatesh, Mahindra United Midfielder Indian Captain, June 2005

"Stephen Constantine is a fine example of someone who, through hard work, perseverance and study, achieved significant status in football as a national coach...we'll be keeping a close eye on his future progress." -- Les Reed, Former Technical Director of the English FA
